I love portrait photography. I am regularly commissioned by an orchestra to photograph the director and the musicians. The communication between the person (subject) and the lens is a fascinating process. As a student I used to love looking at the work of Richard Avedon, W. Eugene Smith and Bert Hardy, as well as a fellow student Brian Warriner, who used to lurk around Clapham Junction with his Mamiya film camera and take the most amazing portrait photography. My method is not to direct the subject at all, rather build a rapport and let the results speak for themselves. personally it is definitely the most challenging, yet rewarding genre in the photography sphere. I have even been persuaded to shoot a wedding or two in my time.
